Music, God’s little reminder . . .

“You know what music is? God’s little reminder that there’s something else besides us in this universe, a harmonic connection between all living beings, every where, even the stars.”                                                                          from August Rush, the movie

There’s another quote I like that says, “The older I get the more selective I am of who is in my tribe. I would rather have four quarters than a hundred pennies.” Sorry I don’t know who the author is. My friend and brother from another mother came over and shared his gift of music with us recently. Bella especially enjoyed John’s playing and singing.

Latest photo restoration

I got a call recently from a lady who needed a special photo restored. She had gone somewhere else and they did a horrible job, she said. She then looked online and found me and checked out my gallery at http://thedonjon.zenfolio.com and gave me a call. She came by and brought the photo of her dad and her husband taken 30 years ago. It was badly faded and had mold. Did you know that your old photographs can become degraded by mold and such? So, if you have some treasured old photographs, remember that you can have them scanned and restored and preserved as a digital file that can be made into prints forever.

Glimpses of Venice Beach

I finally had the opportunity to visit Venice Beach, Ca. Unfortunately my time was limited, so I was only there for about an hour. I wish there was some way to convey my experience besides the photos I took.

There is an energy that pervades the atmosphere. Music emanates from the storefronts. People eating, walking, talking, be-bopping, watching, entertaining, riding, dancing, playing, hanging out – this was just a slice of the energy of people converging in a space that invites us, all of us, to an experience of openness and freedom of expression.

It was a perfect summery late afternoon that invited me to join in. My favorite parts . . . walking along the boardwalk, making contact with a fellow free spirit and dancing our way down a ways to the music – and encountering a group apparently making a music video. I observed the gamut from Muscle Beach enthusiasts to art forms of various types.

And many thanks to my bff Cathrine for accompanying me and helping support me in my difficulties navigating from the parking area and back. Oh, and who has a building dedicated to the love of someone named Werner across from the parking area one block from the beach?! Simone, I hope your love story continues on.

Challenging Photo Restoration

Here is my latest photo restoration. This was the only picture someone had of her grandmother. Part of the photo was stuck to the glass. I had to scan the photo first, then the two pieces of the photo that were stuck to the glass, which caused aberrations because of the thickness of the glass. I then pieced the sections together and then had to patch up the splotches and discolorations. The original is in the middle. If you have a precious photo or photos that you want restored, you can contact me at donna@donnajohnsonphotography.com. You can see other examples in my gallery at http://thedonjon.zenfolio.com

Kaylee at One Year Old

Little Kaylee came by for her one year old session . . . with her parent’s hopes that she was over her cold bug. You know how it goes with little ones – seems like they are getting well one day, and then the next, not so much. Mom was feeling like it didn’t go very well – but we did get some good shots of this sweet, adorable little girl.

The moments before the MOMENT – The process before you capture THAT Image, YOU envisioned.

Great article explaining the process we photographers go through to get you great photos.

Sebastian Stead - My Photography Blog

Ok, this post is going to be a quite long one,  I’d love for you to give it your time and have a little read about something quite interesting…. what happens ‘behind the scenes’ of a photo shoot.

As a photographer, who puts A LOT, if not all of my spare time into my photography, I find one misconception about photography niggles me more than any other….and that is when people seem to think that as a photographer… you turn up to a shoot, you click a button a few times, then you go home a magically produce 20 images for them in 5 minutes.

No…..No………No, I WISH it was that simple.

It’s a lengthy process, a lot of work.

In this post I’m going to talk about the process from the beginning,  the moment I sit down and plan the shoot, the placement, the poses, the angles, the settings I’m…
